The Chamber's membership will vote on proposed revisions to the Chamber's By-Laws at the organization's Annual Meeting on October 7. Members have the proposed changes, along with the current wording, enclosed in this month's Chamber newsletter.
A review of the current By-Laws was done by a committee lead by Dennis Ray (The Little Big Store) with committee members Lane Rees (Human Resource Solutions, Inc.) and Jewell Rushing (Associated Land Title). Most of the revisions simply more accurately reflect the Chamber's use of "Lake/Bay" and "Beach" areas in describing its geographic service areas and address the organization's new structure. More substantial revisions propose stronger member involvement in the Nominating Committee and name the Chamber's Division heads, as created by the 99 - 00 Program of Work, and the Executive Directors of the TDC and EDC as ex-officio directors.
"These revisions bring our Chamber's By-Laws up to date with the current structure of the organization and will allow for more diverse input from the membership and similarly focused organizations," said Chamber Executive Director Pamela A. Tedesco. "The proposed updates to the By-Laws are merited and the membership will have an opportunity to show their agreement with their vote at the Annual Meeting." Members not able to attend the Meeting are encouraged to contact a Board member with their comments or concerns prior to October 7.
