News from Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort celebrated its year anniversary as an Intrawest property on July 13. Matt Lindley, Director of Golf, Mike Stange, Vice President/General Manager and Vance Askew; Vice-President of Resort Development, toast to a prosperous year and await future developments, such as the Raven Golf Club and the Village at Baytowne Wharf.

Captain Joe Lee's Tree House, a 2-story low-rise fabricated of treated pine, bamboo, and cypress, at Sandestin's Baytowne Marine is certifiably one-of-a-kind. Such rarity is the trademark of Beaufort, SC resident and professional tree house builder of twenty-five years, Wayne Edwards, who designed and built the resort landmark. The planks of Sandestin's Baytowne Marina Boardwalk carry visitors over wetlands, right up to the stoop of Captain Joe Lee's Treehouse, which is open year-round and illuminated with faux-moonlight lighting for nocturnal adventurers. Fronting the Choctawhatchee Bay, it is complemented by a neighboring crow's nest and rookery, also along the path and built by Edwards.

Sandestin recently added Jolee Island Nature Park to its considerable list of resort offerings. The 5-acre nature park, whose namesake is the Creek Indian work for pine tree, includes a pirate ship-shaped adventure playground; picnic sites; grills; planked 1.5 mile hiking/running perimeter path; weather-beaten, double-wide porch swings and a greenspace event lawn.
